Living with PD
CURRENT STATE: You are diagnosed with Parkinson Disease (PD), starting, considering or receiving treatment, and:
have questions. Family and caregivers too!
see neurologist/PD specialist every 3-6 months
receive bits and pieces of info from PD websites, support groups and foundations
THE CHALLENGE:
medications and advanced therapies help
each person with PD is unique in their concerns, situations, and problems.
needs specialized and comprehensive care.
One size does not fit all!
Specialized neurologists, Movement Disorders specialists, are trained to tackle the complexities of each person with PD.
THE PROBLEM: Few, many don’t have access.
THE OTHER PROBLEM: Current state of medicine allows doctors limited time to ask, consider and address complex problems that arise with PD, like sleep, memory, mood and blood pressure problems.
THE RESULT: Care not integrated, errors occur, PD-related health problems not addressed correctly.
WE HAVE A SOLUTION!
OUR VISION FOR CARE:
Your PD doctor’s office is a gym/fitness center.
It’s a clean, comfortable place where you can bring a family member or caregiver.
PD doctor briefly evaluates you 1-2 times per month, addressing current concerns, your condition and fitness goals to prepare you for an exercise class or training.
Ready, set, go! Don’t have to think too much! The medical team guides you in the gym! You just come in comfortable clothes to work hard and have fun!
If you develop any concerning symptoms while exercising, including PD-related problems (wearing off!), you receive immediate medical attention.
While you exercise, PD doctor is monitoring, guiding professional trainers to safely challenge you in PD-related difficulties, especially challenging BALANCE!
Result: PD doctor makes better choices for your care, adjust medications if necessary, based on routine training and monitoring, and you exercise routinely, taking control of your care!
It’s free, but you are given the option to participate in clinical research and/or become a community advocate so all people with PD can optimize their care.
